Role of the Governing Body
An extract from the Governance handbook January 2017 states that:
1. The purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.
2. All boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Governor membership is for a period of 4 years
Our Governing Body consists of people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.
Chair of Governors - Steven Norman (Local Area)Chair of Curriculum Committee. Has voting rights. PREVENT Governor Child protection/Safeguarding Governor Looked After Children Governor SEND Governor Appointed by Staffordshire County Council I have been a governor at this very special school ever since it opened in 2001 and have been grateful to the local community for its support in that time. I have particular responsibility for child protection for Looked After Children. Governors and staff strive to give our children the best opportunity for learning and to get into mainstream education where possible. To achieve this we give them an environment where they feel safe, treat them as individuals with differing needs and help them to achieve their potential with targets and innovative ways of learning.

Vice Chair - Mr Tim Bowen (Co-opted)Chair of Finance, HR and Buildings Committee. Has voting rights. Training and Development governor Pupil Premium Governor MFL Governor Appointed by Governing Body I became a parent governor shortly after my son joined the school. I offered myself for election to the governing body mostly because I was so impressed with the tremendous commitment of the School staff towards the children. I am delighted that that commitment has never wavered over time. I am particularly proud that the School has never excluded any of its students. So far as I concerned that record sends a message to the children that, whatever difficulties they might face, Chasetown Community School will never give up on them. My personal experience is as an accountant. I have worked on the financial side of the construction industry for many years. This background has given me valuable knowledge to contribute to the work of the Finance, HR and Buildings sub-committee which I chair. Although my son left the school some time ago he benefited greatly from his time there. I am honoured to remain as a governor to help support the staff in the professional way they go about their important work.
