Promoting Fundamental British Values

All maintained schools must meet the Education Act 2002 to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of their pupils. Through ensuring SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural development) we support our pupils so that they are actively promoting fundamental British values and then they can leave education prepared for life in modern Britain.
The key values are: -
- Democracy
- Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs.
SMSC development incorporates collective worship; the development of relationships throughout the school and engagement in activities beyond the classroom.
The promoting of British values builds on all of our existing work to develop our positive ethos with our children, for example for children to regard all people, regardless of faith, race and culture, with respect and tolerance. Within school this would include children with disabilities and a range of special needs.
Our strategy on embedding British values includes all work on SMSC, Citizenship and PSHE, all of which are integral to the ethos of the school.
At Chasetown Community School these values are reinforced regularly.
